What is Desowen Cream?

Desowen Cream is used to help relieve redness, itching, swelling, or other discomfort caused by skin conditions. This medicine is a corticosteroid.

Use Desowen Cream as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

  • Use as you have been told, even if your signs get better.
  • Use on your skin only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes.
  • Wash your hands before and after use. Do not wash your hands after use if putting this on your hand.
  • Clean the affected part before use; make sure to dry well.
  • Put a thin layer on the affected skin and rub it gently.
  • Do not use coverings (bandages, dressings, make-up) unless told to do so by the doctor.
  • Do not put on the face, underarms, or groin area unless told to do so by the doctor.

Before Taking Desowen Cream

Before using Desowen Cream, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: poor blood circulation, diabetes, immune system problems, other skin conditions, and if you are allergic to it, other corticosteroids or any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Do not use it if there is an infection or sore in the area to be treated.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. 

Desowen Cream Side Effects

Common side effects of Desowen Cream include:

  • scaly skin,
  • thinning or softening of your skin,
  • skin rash or irritation around your mouth,
  • swollen hair follicles,
  • changes in the color of treated skin,
  • blisters,
  • pimples,
  • crusting of treated skin, or
  • stretch marks.

Tell your doctor if you have signs of absorbing Desowen Cream through your skin, including:

  • blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights,
  • mood changes,
  • sleep problems (insomnia),
  • weight gain,
  • puffiness in your face,
  • muscle weakness, or
  • feeling tired.
