What is Desowen Lotion?

Desowen Lotion treats the redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort of various skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. It is in a class of medications called topical corticosteroids. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching.

Use Desowen Lotion only on the skin. Shake the bottle well before using it. Wash your hands. Clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin film of medication to the affected area and gently rub in, usually 2-3 times daily or as directed by your doctor. Do not bandage, wrap, or cover the area unless you are instructed to do so by your doctor. If used in the diaper area on an infant, do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.

After applying the medication, wash and dry your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. Use this medication only for the condition prescribed. Inform your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse after two weeks.

Before Taking Desowen Lotion

Before taking Desowen Cream,

  • You should not use desonide if you are allergic to it.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • Any skin infection;
  • Diabetes; or
  • A skin reaction to any steroid medicine.

It is not known whether Desowen Cream will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.

It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks. If you apply the cream to your chest, avoid areas that may come into contact with the baby's mouth.

Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice. Children can absorb larger amounts of this medicine through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.
