Diprolene Ointment treats various skin conditions (such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash). Betamethasone reduces swelling, itching, and redness in these conditions. This medication is a strong corticosteroid.

Use Diprolene Ointment on the skin only. However, please do not use it on the face, groin, or underarms or for diaper rash unless directed to do so by your doctor. Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using this medication.

Before applying the medication, clean and dry the affected area. Wash and dry your hands. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub it in, usually 1-2 times daily or as directed by your doctor.

Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor. Use this medication only for the condition for which it was prescribed. Please do not use it for longer than prescribed.

Before using Diprolene Ointment, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to it, other medications, or any of the ingredients.
• You are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements or plan to take them. 
• Be sure to mention the following: other corticosteroid medications and other topical medications.
• If you have an infection or have had diabetes, liver disease, or Cushing's syndrome,
• If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, 
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Diprolene Ointment may cause serious side effects. Stop using it and call your doctor at once if you have:

• Severe skin irritation where the medicine was applied; or
• Signs of skin infection.
• Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights;
• Slow wound healing, thinning skin, increased body hair;
• Increased thirst or urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor;
• Weight gain, puffiness in your face; or
• Muscle weakness, tired feeling, depression, anxiety, feeling irritability.

Steroids can affect growth in children. Tell your doctor if your child is not growing while using this medicine.

Common side effects of Diprolene may include:

• Itching, redness, burning, stinging, or blistering of treated skin;
• Skin bruising or shiny appearance; or
• Folliculitis.

Diprolene Ointment relieves certain skin conditions by lessening the release of chemicals in your body that cause swelling and inflammation.

What should you avoid while using Diprolene Ointment?

• Do not get Diprolene in your eyes. If contact does occur, rinse with water.
• Avoid applying it to the skin of your face, underarms, or groin area without your doctor's instruction.
• Do not use this medicine to treat any condition your doctor has not checked.

What side effects can Diprolene Ointment cause?

Burning, itching, irritation, or dryness at the application site may occur when this medication is first applied to the skin. As your body adjusts to the medication, this should disappear in a few days.
