Lidex cream treats various skin conditions (such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, allergies, and rash) by reducing the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these conditions. This medication is a strong corticosteroid.

Lidex cream is generally applied to the affected area as a thin film from two to four times daily, depending on the severity of the condition. Follow your doctor's directions on the label. Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.

The amount of medicine you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine. 

Consider the following before using Lidex cream:

• The prolonged use of Lidex cream or topical corticosteroids to a large surface area and occlusive dressings increases systemic absorption.
• Children may absorb proportionally larger amounts of Lidex cream and thus be more susceptible to systemic toxicity. If irritation develops, Lidex cream should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted.
• As with any topical corticosteroid product, prolonged use may produce atrophy of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. When used on intertriginous or flexor areas or the face, this may occur even with short-term use.
• In the presence of dermatological infections, an appropriate antifungal or antibacterial agent should be instituted. If a favorable response does not occur promptly, the Lidex cream should be discontinued until the infection has been adequately controlled.
• Pregnancy Category C
  Lidex cream not be used extensively on pregnant patients, in large amounts, or for prolonged periods.
• Nursing Mothers
  Systemically administered corticosteroids are secreted into breast milk in quantities not likely to have a deleterious effect on the infant. Nevertheless, caution should be exercised when Lidex cream is administered to a nursing woman.
• Pediatric Use
  Manifestations of adrenal suppression in children include:
• Linear growth retardation.
  Delayed weight gain.
  Low plasma cortisol levels.
  Absence of response to ACTH stimulation.
