Lidex ointment treats the itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, inflammation, and discomfort of various skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching.

Use Lidex ointment as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

• Use as you have been told, even if your signs get better.
• Do not take Lidex by mouth. Use on your skin only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes.
• Wash your hands before and after use. Do not wash your hands after use if putting this on your hand.
• Clean the affected part before use. Make sure to dry well.
• Put a thin layer on the affected skin and rub it gently.
• Do not use coverings (bandages, dressings) unless told to do so by the doctor.

Before using Lidex ointment, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are having surgery, including dental surgery,
• If you are allergic to fluocinonide, other medications, or any ingredients in it. 
• Prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take
• Be sure to mention the following: other corticosteroid medications and other topical medications.
• If you have an infection, any other skin problems, or have ever had diabetes, liver disease, or Cushing's syndrome, 
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. 

The most common side effects of Lidex ointment include the following:

• burning, stinging, itching, or dryness of treated skin,
• redness or crusting around your hair follicles,
• stretch marks,
• spider veins,
• acne,
• lightened color of treated skin,
• headache,
• stuffy nose, and
• sore throat

Tell the doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or does not go away.

Is Lidex ointment suitable for the face?

Typically, Lidex ointment isn't prescribed for the face, but a skin specialist might have you use the lower strength (0.05%) on your face for very short amounts of time and have you follow up with them after you've finished using it.
