Differin Gel treats acne. It works by affecting the growth of cells and decreasing swelling and inflammation. It may decrease the number and severity of acne and promote quick healing of pimples that do develop.

Differin Gel is usually applied once a day at bedtime. Follow the directions on your prescription label or the package label carefully. Apply Differin Gel exactly as directed. 

To use Differin Gel, follow these steps:

• Gently wash the affected skin with a mild soap or soapless cleanser and pat dry with a soft towel. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleansers; do not scrub your skin vigorously. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a gentle cleanser.
• Using the Differin gel, use your fingers to spread a thin film of medication over the affected area, not only to a single pimple or spot.
• You may feel a slight warmth or sting in the place where you applied Differin Gel. This feeling is normal and should go away by itself in a short time.

Before taking Differin Gel

• You should not use Differin gel if you are allergic to adapalene.
• Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are breastfeeding a baby or pregnant.
• Differin gel is not approved for use by anyone younger than 12.

Some side effects may occur during the first four weeks of using Differin Gel. These side effects should become less noticeable with continued use.

Common Differin Gel side effects may include:

• dry, red, or scaly skin;
• the feeling of warmth and mild stinging or burning;
• peeling skin; or
• skin pain.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have the following:

• skin redness, 
• stinging,
• burning, or
• peeling after sun exposure.

What happens if you miss a dose of Differin Gel?

Apply the Differin Gel as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and wait until your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not apply extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if you overdose on Differin Gel?

Seek emergency medical attention if you have used too much Differin Gel. Overdose symptoms may include skin redness, scaling, or irritation.

What should you avoid while using Differin Gel?

Avoid using skin products that can irritate, such as harsh soaps, shampoos, or skin cleansers, hair coloring or permanent chemicals, hair removers or waxes, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime.

What are the side effects of Differin Gel?

A brief sensation of warmth or stinging may occur right after applying Differin Gel.
