What is Isopto Carpine Eye Drops?

Isopto Carpine Eye Drops are used to treat glaucoma, presbyopia and ocular hypertension. They also prevent or reduce increased pressure in the eye during and after certain types of laser eye surgery. They are also used during an eye exam to constrict the pupil. Isopto Carpine Eye Drops treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension by allowing excess fluid to drain from the eye. Isopto Carpine Eye Drops treat presbyopia by reducing the size of the pupils, which helps to see objects up close.

Use Isopto Carpine Eye Drops only as directed by your doctor. Please use them sparingly, and use them for only what your doctor ordered. To do so may increase the chance of too much medicine being absorbed into the body and the chance of side effects.

To use the Isopto Carpine Eye Drops:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
  • Tilt your head back and, pressing your finger gently on the skin just beneath the lower eyelid, pull the eyelid away from the eye to make a space. Drop the medicine into this space.
  • Let go of the eyelid and gently close the eye. Do not blink. Keep the eye closed for 1 or 2 minutes to allow the medicine to be absorbed by the eye.
  • If you think you need to get the drop of medicine into your eye properly, repeat the process with another drop.
  • Serious damage to the eye and possible loss of vision may result from using contaminated eye medicines. Do not touch the applicator tip on any surface to keep the medicine germ-free. Also, keep the container tightly closed.
