Tobradex Eye Drops are used to treat or prevent bacterial eye infections. This medication contains two drugs. Tobramycin stops bacteria's growth, and Dexamethasone works by reducing swelling.

Use Tobradex eye drops exactly as directed by your doctor. Use the eye drops only as long as your doctor recommends. To apply the Tobradex eye drops:

• Wash your hands before and after using the eye drops.
• Shake the drops gently to be sure Tobradex is well-mixed. Tilt your head back slightly and pull down on your lower eyelid. Position the dropper above your eye. Look up and away from the dropper. Squeeze out a drop and close your eye.
• Apply gentle pressure to the inside corner of your eye (near your nose) for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining down your tear duct.
• If you are using more than one drop in the same eye, repeat the process for about 5 minutes between drops. If you are using drops in both eyes, repeat the process in the other eye.

Before using Tobradex Eye Drops, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• Suppose you are allergic to tobramycin, other antibiotics, or other prescription and nonprescription medications, especially other eye medications and vitamins.
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Call your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while using tobramycin eye drops.
• You should know that your vision may be blurred during treatment with Tobradex Eye Drops. Avoid rubbing your eyes even if your vision is blurred. Do not drive a car or operate machinery if you cannot see clearly.
• Suppose you wear soft contact lenses. You should not wear contact lenses if you have an eye infection.

Long-term treatment with steroids (such as in Tobradex) may cause glaucoma, nerve damage in the eye, or cataract formation.

Common side effects of Tobradex Eye Drops include:

• eye redness,
• discomfort,
• burning,
• stinging,
• irritation,
• itching;
• eyelid itching/swelling,
• blurred vision, or
• sensitivity to light.

Using Tobradex for prolonged/repeated periods may result in a new fungal eye infection and increase your risk for other eye problems (e.g., glaucoma and cataracts).

Tobradex Eye Drops may cause serious side effects, including:

• severe eye redness, itching or swelling,
• blurred vision,
• tunnel vision,
• seeing halos around lights,
• pain behind your eyes,
• sudden vision changes,
• slow healing after eye surgery, and
• redness, severe discomfort, crusting or drainage of the eye

Get medical help immediately if you have any of the above mentioned symptoms.

How effective are Tobradex Eye Drops for dry eyes?

There are numerous different causes of dry eyes. It's best to check with an eye specialist to determine the right treatment for your dry eye problem. Tobradex Eye Drops may help in some instances, like if you have problems with the oil glands that help keep your eyes lubricated, but it won't help in all cases.

Can you use Tobradex Eye Drops for pink eye?

If you have an eye infection, it's best to get it diagnosed by a healthcare professional to get the right treatment. Tobradex Eye Drops are a good treatment for pink eye (also known as conjunctivitis) if it is due to a bacterial infection. Remember that pink eye may also be due to a viral infection, which Tobradex won't be able to treat.
