Tobradex Eye Ointment treats eye infections. This medication contains two drugs. Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Dexamethasone corticosteroids work by reducing swelling. Tobradex will not work for other types of eye infections.

Use Tobradex eye ointment exactly as directed by your doctor. To apply the Tobradex eye ointment:

• Wash your hands before and after using the eye ointment.
• Hold the tube in your hand for a few minutes to warm it up so that the ointment comes out easily.
• Tilt your head back slightly and pull down gently on your lower eyelid.
• Apply a thin film of the ointment to your lower eyelid.
• Close your eye and roll your eyeball around in all directions for 1 to 2 minutes.
• If you are applying another eye medication, allow at least 10 minutes before application of the other medication.

Before using Tobradex eye ointment, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially for: other eye problems (such as glaucoma) and if you are allergic to either drug or other aminoglycoside antibiotics or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Consult your doctor before breastfeeding or pregnancy.

Common side effects of TobraDex Ointment include:

• burning,
• stinging,
• irritation,
• temporary blurred vision,
• eye redness,
• eye discomfort,
• eyelid itching or swelling, and
• sensitivity to light.

Tell your doctor if you notice any serious side effects of TobraDex Ointment, including:

• new or worsening eye symptoms (e.g., discharge, swelling),
• vision changes, or
• eye pain.

How long should you use the Tobradex Eye Ointment?

Please do not use the Tobradex eye ointment longer than your doctor recommends. Long-term treatment with steroids may cause glaucoma, nerve damage in the eye, or cataract formation.

What other precautions to know while on Tobradex Eye Ointment?
Please do not touch the Tobradex Eye Ointment tube opening to any surface, including your eyes or hands. The tube opening is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye. 

Is driving safe while on Tobradex Eye Ointment?
After you apply Tobradex eye ointment, your vision may become temporarily blurred or unstable. Please do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you can do it safely.
