Xalatan Eye Drops are used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Xalatan Eye Drops belong to prostaglandin analogs. It lowers the pressure in the eye by increasing the flow of natural eye fluids.

To apply the Xalatan Eye Drops: 

• The usual dose of Xalatan Eye Drops is one drop into the affected eye every evening. 
• Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully. Wash your hands before using the eye drops.
• Tilt your head slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop.
• Close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down without blinking or squinting.
• Gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about 1 minute to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct.
• Please do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper can infect your eye, leading to serious vision problems.
• Store an unopened bottle of Xalatan eye drops in a refrigerator. Do not freeze.

Before using Xalatan Eye Drops, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to Xalatan or other drugs.
• Prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, including vitamins,
• If you have inflammation of the eye and if you have or have ever had liver or kidney disease,
• If you are having surgery, including dental surgery,
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Xalatan Eye Drops may cause some side effects. Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

• Eye pain or stinging

Less common

• Decreased vision
• Painful irritation of the clear front part of the eye
• Swelling or redness of the eye and the lining of the eyelid.

Should Xalatan Eye Drops be refrigerated?

Xalatan Eye Drops should be in the fridge until you are ready to open them. Once you open the bottle, you can store it at room temperature.

What happens if you overdose on Xalatan Eye Drops?

Do not take more Xalatan Eye Drops than prescribed. More than once daily, Xalatan can make it less effective or have the opposite effect and raise your eye pressure.

What side effects can Xalatan Eye Drops cause?

Blurred vision, burning/stinging/itching/redness of the eye, feeling as if something is in the eye, changes in eyelash number/color/length/thickness, eyelid changes/skin darkening, dry eye, lid crusting/discomfort, or increased sensitivity to light may occur.
