Xyzal Oral Solution is an antihistamine that relieves allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, and sneezing. It is also used to relieve itching and hives. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.

Take Xyzal Oral Solution exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. 

• A child's dose of Xyzal Oral Solution is based on age. Do not give a child more than the prescribed dose of this medicine. A child's body absorbs twice the same dose size of Xyzal as an adult's.
• Xyzal is usually taken in the evening, with or without food.
• Measure liquid medicine carefully. Use the dosing syringe provided or a medicine dose-measuring device.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, if they get worse, or if you also have a fever.

Before taking Xyzal Oral Solution, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to it, cetirizine or any other medications,
• Prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products,
• Be sure to mention the following: antidepressants; medications for anxiety, mental illness, or seizures; ritonavir; sedatives; sleeping pills; theophylline; and tranquilizers. 
• If you have or ever have had kidney disease,
• Pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Do not breastfeed while you are taking Xyzal.

You should know that Xyzal oral solutions may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

Stop using Xyzal oral solutions and call your doctor at once if you have the following:

• Worsening allergy or urticaria symptoms;
• Painful or difficult urination;
• little or no urination;
• A light-headed feeling, like you, might pass out;
• Fever; or
• Signs of an ear infection - ear pain or full feeling, trouble hearing, drainage from the ear,
  fussiness in a child.

Common Xyzal oral solutions side effects may include:

• Drowsiness, tiredness;
• Sinus pain;
• Ear infection;
• Cough;
• Fever;
• Nosebleed;
• Vomiting, diarrhea, constipation;
• Dry mouth; or
• Weight gain.
